Barrett Kays was appointed to a second term on the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for 1998-2002. Also, he was appointed to the Chamber's Wake County Economic Development Board and works on its Research Committee, which is developing a geographical information system (GIS) to assist marketing efforts for 143 prime industrial sites throughout Wake County.
